Training seminar on the wide implementation of space research in the field of seismic safety

Date: 26.08.2022

On May 30, 2022, the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan PF-144 "On measures to further improve the seismic safety system of the Republic of Uzbekistan" was signed.

The decree set several important tasks, such as seismology, the development of areas for ensuring the seismic resistance of structures and seismic safety, as well as the implementation of large-scale comprehensive measures to radically improve the efficiency of industry organizations.

In particular, the agency "Uzbekkosmos" is set to perform the following tasks:

  • Development of an interactive online map combining seismic processes in the Republic of Uzbekistan (active, medium-active, and calm areas) and districts.
  • Development of a radar space monitoring system that indicates factors such as deformation, displacement, and subsidence caused by earthquakes in areas where buildings and structures are located in seismically active zones.
  • Implementation of a system of continuous space monitoring of seismic resistance of dams of reservoirs.
  • Implementation of the practice of developing visual 3D models of areas that may be flooded.
  • Development of a system for providing relevant ministries and departments with the necessary satellite images and processed information in organizing rescue operations caused by a dam break as a result of an earthquake.

To ensure the fulfillment of these tasks, the Agency, in cooperation with Synspective Inc., organized a training seminar on "Space research in the field of seismic safety" in the building of the Mavlonov Institute of Seismology with the participation of authorized ministries and departments.

During the event, the participants were presented with a presentation on the effective aspects of the widespread introduction of space research in the field of seismic safety.

Information was also provided on the initial results determined by space monitoring of the reservoirs "Chimkurgan" and "Southern Surkhan" located on the territory of Uzbekistan.

At the end of the meeting, the conference participants agreed to cooperate in every possible way regarding the development of seismic safety and identified tasks to be performed in the future with "radar space monitoring of deformations, displacements, subsidence of buildings and structures caused by earthquakes in seismically active zones."
